During a recent investor earnings call, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg spoke a bit about how he’s already very confident in how Destiny 2 will perform while also covering topics like the sequel’s pre-order numbers and DLC expansions.
According to Hirshberg, a big reason why Destiny 2 has already been garnering so much positive buzz is because of steps taken by developer Bungie; steps like bringing the sequel to PC and allowing console players to sample the game via the recent open beta. Because of all this, it’s no surprise that pre-order numbers for Destiny 2 are already “very strong” as Hirshberg put it, and a large number of those pre-orders are for premium versions of the game that include access to upcoming DLC expansions.
Speaking of DLC expansions, Hirshberg confirmed that, much like its predecessor, Destiny 2 will be receiving multiple expansions, and Hirshberg also stressed that development for the expansions won’t be phoned in:
"Finally, and maybe most importantly with a game like this, Destiny is so engaging that the follow-on content is almost as important if not as important as the main game."
We still don’t know exactly what Destiny 2’s expansions will entail (and we likely won’t find out until after the full game launches next month), but it’s good to hear that Activision wants to ensure Destiny will continue to make positive first impressions with players throughout its lifespan.
Destiny 2 will launch on September 6 for consoles and October 23 for PC.
