This feature and video will tell you how to master Vertigo, a map featured in Destiny’s Crucible.
This environment is one of our favorites because it shows Bungie can still think outside of the box when it comes to Crucible maps. Vertigo features a pretty underused method of transportation, portals! It takes place on Mercury on a floating Vex installation, so be careful when trying to navigate.
The first thing we should talk about are the zone areas. A and C are extremely close together, but because of the unique makeup of the map, they aren’t too easy to hold down. You can either take the easy way and walk, or the more advantageous way by jumping to the portal platform and then scoping it out before heading over.
Jumping to and from this platform puts you in a risky situation, considering you have to navigate across a decently sized chasm to get anywhere and you have the portal behind you, but it is extremely effective for keeping sight on A and C at the same time. In fact, this would be the only map we would suggest not rushing to B right away.
The portal only works one way, from the B zone, so if you have A and C, you can either wait for enemies to rush you from the direction of B, or let them jump out of the portal and wait for them to come to you. If you happen to be out on the portal platform, you can only jump to A or C to escape.
Snipers will have a great time on this map, but there are also plenty of chances to run and gun as well. You will often find little jumping platforms that allow you to avoid entering choke points and long hallways at the risk of falling to your death. Pros at this map will use those frequently, so be on guard.
The B zone is right in the center of the map and has plenty of ways to attack. It does allow for a quick path to the opposite side of the map via the portal, but often times when you go through it, you are a sitting duck. If you are having a tough time getting through there, take one of the numerous tunnels in the center of the map to get a jump on A and C.
We’ll have more map tips next week, but for now, find out all you need to know about Pantheon.
