Apotheosis Veil Exotic Armor Review: Perks and Build Guide

Everything you need to know about the Exotic Warlock Helmet, the Apotheosis Veil.

The Apotheosis Veil, one of the Year 1 Warlock Exotic Helmets which made its way through to Destiny’s The Taken King. In many ways, the Apotheosis Veil fails to get a lot of love, and considering the wealth of crazy Warlock Exotics doing some truly bizarre and powerful things, and maybe this isn’t surprising. But is it justified? Let’s take a look at whether or not we should be giving the Apotheosis Veil a little more attention.

Apotheosis Veil Stats

With Intellect taking the foreground here, the Apotheosis Veil will help you get your Super back a little bit faster, but Strength and Discipline take a back seat here:

  • Intellect – Min: 33 / Max: 106
  • Strength – Min: 33 / Max: 67
  • Discipline – Min: 33 / Max: 67

Even with perk boosts, things still seem to lean in Intellect’s favor.

Apotheosis Veil Perks

Selectable Perk 1 – Stat Increase

Definitely still skewed towards Intellect, the Apotheosis Veil sports a 2/3 chance of rolling Intellect on the first bubble, with the other 1/3 being Strength. For the second slot, the weighting is even. These are the available perks: Increase Strength Increase Discipline Increase Intellect While this means that technically your chances of rolling a Strength boost are higher, don’t back on it. You’re very likely to roll Intellect on your first slot, and then it’s even for the second, so plan accordingly.

Selectable Perk 2 – Super Energy Buff Perk

Nothing unusual, you’ll be looking at the standard array of Destiny Exotic Helmet selectable Super perks here.

Slot 1:

  • Inverse Shadow – Increased Super energy gained from killing minions of the Darkness.
  • Ashes to Assets – Gain bonus Super energy on Grenade kills.
  • Hands-On – Gain bonus Super Energy from melee kills on minions of the Darkness.

We always recommend going with Inverse Shadow if it happens to come up. It’s by far the more versatile perk, giving you Super energy just for kills in general rather than for a specific reason.

Slot 2:

  • Second Thoughts – Gain bonus Super energy from Special Weapon kills on minions of the Darkness.
  • Heavy Lifting – Gain bonus Super energy from Heavy Weapon kills on minions of the Darkness.

If you fail to get Inverse Shadow, but manage to roll Second Thought, be sure to go with the latter option. While getting Super energy for Heavy kills is all well and good, you’re much more likely to be using your Special weapon most of the time, so you should get more energy for it.

Non-Selectable Perk – Orb of Light Buff

There are 4 possible outcomes for this final, non-selectable slot:

  • Innervation – Bonus grenade energy on Orb pickup.
  • Invigoration – Gain bonus melee energy on Ord pickups.
  • Better Already – Shields start recovery immediately after Orb pickup.
  • Infusion – Replenishes health each time you pick up an Ord of Light.

This is more likely to affect you in PvE than it is in the Crucible, so your outcome here isn’t vital. With that being said, we tend to prefer the perks that give increased health or shield recovery for PvE. If you’re going to be using the Apotheosis Veil in the Crucible, then you’ll likely prefer Innervation or Invigoration.

Exotic Perk – Private Reserves

  • Private Reserves – Immediately regenerate health, melee and grenade energy upon activation your Super.

On first glance, the Private Reserves Exotic perk can seem particularly underwhelming. However, the thing that actually makes this perk something of a desirable asset is its versatility. Appropriate in both PvE and the Crucible, equipable by any subclass without impunity, the Apotheosis Veil has something for everyone. With the health regeneration aspect of this perk, you can use your Super ability in a panic in order to stay alive, and the bonus is that you get your Melee and Grenade back with it, ready to dish out more chaos. A deadly combination!

The Last Word

At a quick glance, very little about the Apotheosis Veil is particularly striking. With the majority of its perks being randomly chosen and present on every other Exotic Warlock helmet, it’s the Exotic perk you need to weigh up to decide if you truly want to use the Apotheosis Veil. Considering the versatility of Private Reserves as a perk, the Apotheosis Veil is certainly a contender in the world of Warlock Exotics. However, its perk is simply too lackluster to be considered groundbreaking.

Considering that it can be used by anyone, the Apotheosis Veil earns a solid 3/5 Exotic Engrams from us.
