Mk. 44 Stand Asides Armor Review, Perks and Build Guide

Everything you need to know about the Exotic Titan Leg Armor, the Mk. 44 Stand Asides!

You know what Titans really lack at times? Mobility. Unfortunately, with the eagerly anticipated Titan Exotic Legs, the Dunemarchers, still nowhere to be seen, the best we’ve got are the Mk. 44 Stand Asides if you’re the type of Titan who likes to stay light on their toes. Arguably only useful to the Striker subclass, the Mk. 44 Stand Asides are all about the Shoulder Charge, as well as letting you turn on a dime. But before we get too into the perks, let’s take a look at stats.

Mk. 44 Stand Asides Stats

Even standing across the board on this one, with the Mk. 44 Stand Asides you’re looking at:

  • Intellect – Min: 40 / Max: 79
  • Strength – Min: 40 / Max: 79
  • Discipline – Min: 40 / Max: 79

While the splits may be even, the perk weightings are far from it, with a tilt towards Intellect/Strength for maximum mayhem.

Mk. 44 Stand Asides Perks

Selectable Perk 1 – Stat Increase

Considering that Titans (Strikers in particular) have some pretty awesome grenades, it’s a huge shame that the perk chances for the Mk. 44 Stand Aside weigh heavily in favor of an Intellect/Strength split, with the first slot 2/3 towards Intellect, and the second being 2/3 for Strength.

  • Increase Strength
  • Increase Discipline
  • Increase Intellect

Despite this, there’s a decent amount of synergy here, with the melee-focused Exotic perk linking nicely with the Strength push.

Selectable Perk 2 – Ammo Carry Buff

When it comes to Exotic Leg Armor, it’s all about the Ammo perks, and the Mk. 44 Stand Asides fail to buck the trend in any way. This column will randomly assign you a pair of perks for either a Special Weapon ammo type, or for the second slot, a Heavy Ammo perk. Here’s what you’re getting:

Slot 1:

  • (Fusion Rifle/Shotgun/Sidearm/Sniper Rifle) Ammo – Increases the amount of (Fusion Rifle/Shotgun/Sidearm/Sniper Rifle) ammunition you can carry.

Mostly, what you’re hoping for here is a question of preference. You’ll likely be using the Mk. 44 Stand Asides the most in the Crucible, so Shotgun and Sniper ammo are likely the best choices, but it’s dependent on your playstyle. In PvE however, Sniper is usually king.

Slot 2:

  • (Machine Gun/Rocket Launcher) Ammo – Increases the amount of (Machine Gun/Rocket Launcher) ammunition you can carry.

If you don’t get your favorite choice of perk for the first slot, then arguably you’re best off going with your second, Heavy Ammo perk regardless. While it’s much more likely you’ll rock your Special weapon more often, there’s never a situation where a Heavy weapon is redundant, so you can always find a use, whether it’s for extra rockets or bullets.

Non-Selectable Perk 3 – Arc Double-Down

Unlike most Exotic armor pieces, the Mk. 44 Stand Asides don’t give you a choice here, instead locking in for the Arc Double-Down.

  • Arc Double-Down - Increased Agility for 5 seconds after an Arc double kill.

Considering that the Mk. 44 Stand Asides are an Exotic designed for Striker Titans, this shouldn’t bother anyone very much at all.

Pro Tip: Match your Special and Heavy weapons to whatever Double-Down you’re using so trigger it more often.

Exotic Perk – Be Somewhere Else

  • Increases the duration of Shoulder Charge and tighter turn radius while sprinting.

This is why the Mk. 44 Stand Asides work best for the Striker Titan. With these on, your opportunity to Shoulder Charge is lengthened significantly, meaning you’re much more likely to score a satisfying KO while running around a Crucible map. On top of this, you get a much tighter turning radius when you’re at sprint speed, improving mobility nicely for Titans, as well as letting you turn on a dime to deliver that Shoulder Charge, rather than a wide loop that will potentially get you killed. Definitely satisfying in the Crucible, if a little underwhelming for PvE.

The Last Word

Unlike the similar Titan Leg Exotic, the Peregrine Greaves, the Mk. 44 Stand Asides are actually pretty versatile. While they may be more effective in the Crucible, they still allow for better movement in any game type, against any type of opponent, and a Shoulder Charge can be a nasty weapon regardless. However, the Peregrine Greaves are just that little bit more satisfying to use. If you don’t have a set of Mk. 44 Stand Asides, and you’re an aficionado of the Shoulder Charge, pick them up and try them out in the Crucible. You definitely won’t regret it. However, this Exotic does fail to hit quite as high as it should, and because of this we’ll be giving it a 3/5 Exotic Engrams.
